The Potter's House Outreach Ministries
It’s a small and mighty ministry that is built on prayers and God’s faithfulness, is one of the inaugural mini grant recipients from the Institute for Rural and Small-Town Leaders & Ministry.
Pastor Gena Long shared “The church and the community such as low-income families; men and women just getting out of prison; Clancy Hills Apartments across the street from our church, and other group meetings such as single parenting, anger management. Sunday School, Bible Study that gather for teaching and learning and fellowship and hospitality.”
With support from the Institute, the ministry is working toward installing running water in their kitchen — a simple yet transformative step that will expand their ability to serve meals, host gatherings, and deepen community connection.

At the Cross Ministries: Growing Hope in the Community
HoodEmpower is proud to spotlight the meaningful work happening at At the Cross Ministries in Salisbury, NC, led by Dr. Debra Ellison. Dr. Ellison shared, “We are so very proud and thankful for being a part of this small church initiative.”
During a recent visit, Reverend Mary Scott witnessed firsthand the passion and progress within the ministry. “I was amazed at all the things going on. This is a church on the move within the community,” she shared. From the growing garden area to new water resources that will benefit the church and community, the ministry continues to take impactful steps forward.
Reverend Scott also spoke about the church’s sharing spot, which stays stocked for those in need. “While I was there someone came to partake,” she said, reflecting on the heart behind the ministry’s outreach efforts. As At the Cross Ministries prepares for future opportunities and continued growth, their faith, dedication, and desire to serve their community continue to shine brightly.
